No-exam life insurance
Who is eligible for accelerated underwriting, how the process works, and what happens if you're not.
Many carriers now offer accelerated underwriting: for applicants in certain age and amount ranges, they decide from the application, prescription records, driving history and other data rather than a physical exam. Some decisions come the same day. Each quote on this site says whether an exam is required, might be required, or is not required for each product.
What it changes
No exam doesn't mean no underwriting. Your answers get checked, and a policy from wrong answers can be disputed within the first two years. If the carrier's research finds issues, it may ask for an exam or lab work anyway; you decide then if you want to move forward.
Who tends to qualify
Typically people under about age 60 applying for amounts under the carrier's accelerated limit, with no serious health issues and no tobacco use for a year or more. If you've had a recent doctor visit with bloodwork, certain carriers will take those results instead of an exam.
If an exam is needed, it's usually a 20- to 30-minute visit from a paramedical examiner at your home or workplace in the Anaheim area, at no cost to you. For healthy applicants, results often move you into a better rate class, so an exam isn't always a bad thing.
